Lake City is one the most remote old silver mining towns in Colorado. Mining started around Lake City in the mid 1870s. Today, Lake City is a great place for fishing, hiking , off roading in the summer and snowmobiling in the winter. Area attractions include Lake San Cristobal, Engineer and Cinnamon Passes which are both part of the alpine Loop 4 wheel drive route. Some of the sights along this route worth taking in are places such as Capital City, Whitmore Falls, Empire Chief Mine, Engineer City, Sherman town site along with many others.
